First of all, What is a Web Ring? A typical web ring is a group of web sites typically having a common, related, or other specified theme or purpose. The sites, members of the web ring, are linked together by HTML code with each site having hyperlinks to the next. Eventually the last member site links back to the first site, forming a "ring".
Why should you join The Chamorro Web Ring? The purpose of the Chamorro Web Ring is to link together sites relating to Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan, or, as our saying goes, "a little bit of everything Chamorro". Everything meaning web pages that showcase the islands through pictures, stories, audio, video, statistics, information, news, and personal web pages by people who have created pages just to say they're from the islands.
The Chamorro Web Ring is also intended to lend to more exposure for member web sites, particularly those personal web pages that many of you create that sit within member indexes of ISPs but otherwise don't get advertised. Many people don't bother adding their sites to search engines and the like because they maintain only the simplest of web pages saying nothing more than "hey this is me". So? The web is big enough for everyone to tout their stuff and flaunt their little corner of the world... OUR little corner of the world!
Search Engines and links are a big help, but, when you join the Ring, your site is linked with other Chamorro sites. From any site in the ring, visitors can click on the "NEXT" hyperlink to jump to the next site. If they keep moving forward to the next linked site, they eventually will end up back where they started. They will, at that point, have taken a virtual tour of every aspect of the Mariana Islands that you, the member site, have to offer them.
Who Can Join the Chamorro Web Ring? Anyone can join as long as your web site has something related to Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan, the CNMI, or otherwise conforms to a Chamorro theme. Sites can feature anything from an informational "everything you always wanted to know about our side of the world" site to a personal "about me" web page. That said, there are no other real hard qualifiers needed. There are a few guidelines to follow, discussed in another article, in the interest of maintaining some baseline to the ring's operation and participation. Please read it.
